In the photo the girls show us some of their karate moves that they learnt through World Vision India’s initiative. The Hena Girl Power group was formed in July 2019 and has 45 members. The girls have played an instrumental role in protecting children in their community from early marriage, trafficking, child labour, and dropping out of school in the past. They have handled a total of 16 different cases up to March 2021 and out of these 8 were only related to child marriage during the pandemic. 18-year-old Mousumi is the president of the Hena Girl Power group and wants to become a lawyer (advocate) and help people who are in trouble. Her dream for her village is that child marriage, child labour and trafficking should stop. Girl Power Groups (GPG) are formed for empowering adolescent girls to protect themselves and their peers from traffickers. In their weekly group meetings, girls learn life skills, Sports-4- Development, personal safety education, legal awareness and safe migration. The groups also detect incidents of trafficking, child marriage and other gender-based violence and take direct action to stop them.
</oembed>
