Francisco is the father of Ever Francisco Rodriguez Arriaga, 16, sponsored, in Yamaranguila AP, Honduras. As a lay leader at the rural church, Francisco welcomes congregants for Bible reading and prayers three times during the week. On Sunday, he and his family all walk to the cathedral downtown in Yamaranguila. He says the spiritual transformation World Vision has brought to the community is the organization’s greatest contribution to daily life. Francisco’s own spiritual transformation came shortly after Ever was born, 15 years ago. Already raising five daughters, Francisco struggled with alcohol, and it affected his ability to work and his family’s finances. But God was working and drew him to a church Bible study. His heart was opened to take responsibility for his actions. He turned away from alcohol and dedicated himself to his family and community. World Vision’s classes on Parenting with Love helped him come to value his own life more for what he can do to care for his children and be a good influence on other parents. Now he teaches the parenting classes using the same curriculum. He advises parents to practice open communication with their children. “I really treasure even those small interactions like asking my children ‘How are you? How was your day?’ he says. “Everyone needs to be listened to,” he says with a smile. Francisco also received agriculture training from World Vision. “In our community, World Vision is linked to development in so many different areas,” Francisco says.
