For the past nine years, the Bekaa valley in Lebanon hosted thousands of families from Syria after the war shattered and destroyed their houses and hometowns. They sought refuge in lands where parents had to substitute their homes with tents, and their dreams with a lost future for them and their children. Nine years on, the war is still brutal, and millions of children are still on the move. Hunger, child labour, early marriage, lack of education and lack of proper nutrition are problems affecting the minds and well- being of the little ones. With support provided by the World Food Programme (WFP), World Vision is supporting the most vulnerable Syrian refugee households in the Bekaa in meeting their basic food needs through the provision of food assistance. 382,966 Syrian beneficiaries are provided with food assistance, in addition to 30,821 Lebanese and 448 beneficiaries from other nationalities. Nevertheless, this anniversary of the Syria mark comes with new miseries, new challenges, and new coping mechanisms for Syrian refugees, as Lebanon passes through an economic crisis.
