She was severely malnourished and her mother Grace worried she would die. But a visitor arrived at Grace and Juliana’s home just in time. It was a World Vision volunteer, who measured Juliana and urged Grace to take her to a nutrition centre. In the last few months, Juliana’s bounced back. She’s been given Ready-to-use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) – a high energy, vitamin and protein rich, ready-to-eat paste suitable for treatment of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition – on a daily basis. Grace was shown how to administer the RUTF pack to Juliana at the centre and then given a weekly supply of RUTF to take home and administer there. Each week, Grace and Juliana returned to the centre, where aside from being weighed and measured, their progress noted and more packs of RUTF provided, they learned about nutrition and health. Juliana is proof that Grace’s efforts have succeeded. Within two months Juliana has gained weight, is crawling and playing and is no longer malnourished. At 10 months, she’s already standing on her own. “I’m very happy to see how Juliana is doing now,” Grace says. “She’s more healthy than the other children were at her age. I’m hoping she’ll continue to be healthy in the future.”
</oembed>
