The nearest school is 5 km away at Mon town, a winding road through forest and streams. Every morning he walks this trail and returns in the evening. His parents are uneducated. They are farmers and have spent their entire life slogging in the paddy fields, a life they don’t want for Ongpha and his siblings. When Ongpha’s mother was young so many odds were against her getting educating. They didn’t have water supply in the village and they had to defecate in the forest. The entire village had to fetch water 2-3 km away from natural spring and small ponds. That took a lot of their time. The children also helped their parents in the paddy field. Walking 5 km to Mon for education seemed too much trouble. Few decades forward, life is so much easier for Ongpha and the younger generation. World Vision has installed two water pipelines from two water sources and built one reservoir and four water tanks: water supply is perennial. Children in the village can concentrate on getting good education.
