Summary: Lightwell, 10, and his family are part of the WVUS story that includes sponsorship, the Christmas gift catalog, and the WVI Global Power Claim that because of our community-focused solutions, for every child you help, 4 more children benefit, too. The family lives in Moyo AP in southern Zambia: start date October 1, 2009. Lightwell is not sponsored, but his family benefits from World Vision’s literacy program, one of the primary technical projects in Moyo. Thomas Mambo, 45, a caregiver in Moyo since 2009 says education is now considered fundamental in Moyo: “The Reading Camps are helping our children. There has been an “outbreak of reading,” he says. “Children read everything they get their hands on.” Thomas says the Reading Camps are key to the change: “Now they’ve brought school into the village. Now children are less intimidated. By the time they get to school they know how to interact with teachers.” Lightwell is a good example of the outbreak of reading. He always has a book with him, everywhere he goes. In the middle of children playing football and chasing each other around, Lightwell can be found reading. Lightwell’s mother, Lillian, says her children love the World Vision Reading Camp. “If you haven’t made lunch, they’ll go anyway. When they go there, they learn,” she says. This is a turnaround for a family that until recently had little to eat. Things changed in 2014 when they became recipients of World Vision’s Animal Give-back program, called the pass on program in Zambia. “Our family had hunger,” says Lillian. “Before the goats, we were food insecure. Now the family is food secure. We can sell the goats. We’ve bought household items, blankets, [and paid] school fees.” Lillian says the family used to beg for foo
