I was taken to the health facility and they told me it was malaria. In February, I had malaria at school. I just went outside the class and laid in the grass until my parents came to take me to the clinic,? Belyse says. Belyse is one of millions of Burundians who have been infected with malaria this year ? as the country struggles to cope with an epidemic that has caused 19 million malaria cases to be reported during the last three years. World Vision is responding to the epidemic. Belyse?s family received mosquito nets to protect them from malaria-carrying mosquitos while they sleep. A total of 58,108 mosquito nets have been distributed across the country. Another way to save lives is to ensure people know how to identify the signs of malaria early on and seek treatment. World Vision organizes community awareness sessions on how to prevent malaria, how to recognize the signs and what to do if infected. Belyse knows the danger. ?It?s a disease caused by mosquitos. If someone has a headache, is weak, has a high temperature, feels some pain and take hours lying down, they need to go to the health clinic. If you are not treated early, you can be in bad health,? Belyse says.
</oembed>
