This past weekend, our team was in the ‘Windy City’ at the Justice Conference. We co-hosted the Advocacy for Global Poverty pre-conference track and were honored to not only be surrounded by thought leaders in this area, but to also have the opportunity to meet so many people with the heart, passion, and willingness to use their voice for the world’s poor.

Here are a few of our favorite quotes from the weekend:

“The opposite of poverty is not wealth. In too many places, the opposite of poverty is justice.”
–Bryan Stevenson

“Advocacy around global poverty is deeply rooted in theology. Our advocacy needs to learn from Jesus. We need to sow seeds of the Gospel that bring change.”
–Dr. Gregg A. Okesson

“We approach global poverty not with hopelessness, but with a spirit of hope.”
–Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon

“How do we move from charity to justice? Justice requires addressing systems and engaging in politics.”
–Dave Buerstetta

“We have gifts that God has given us to steward, including our ability to influence and advocate.”
–Amanda Mootz

“Speak truth to power, but do love.”
–Bob Goff

“We must start embodying actions and language that show that God lives in each of us.”
–Pastor Traci Blackmon
